On Saturday evening, June 4 a two car accident resulted in the deaths of two people and one serious injury.
According to Alabama Law Enforcement, the accident happened at the intersection of Alabama 20 and Gargis Lane, three miles east of Muscle Shoals. Reports indicate that Betty Youngblood, aged 59, of Florence was driving a 1998 Ford on Gargis Lane when she attempted to turn onto Alabama 20 and collided with a 2008 Nissan SUV which was traveling west on Alabama 20, and was occupied by four teenagers from Tennessee.
Youngblood was taken to Huntsville Hospital, where she is listed in serious condition in the neurological intensive care unit. Her two passengers were 68 year old Willa Sue Melton who was taken to Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital in Florence and then transferred to UAB Birmingham where she later died and 56 year old Debra Pendergrass Jones of Florence who was taken to Helen Keller Hospital in Sheffied where she also died.
The driver of the Nissan, 18 year old Collin Waldron, 18, of Dyersburg, Tennessee, was taken to Helen Keller Hospital, where he was admitted and later released, and his three passengers who were all aged 18 and all from Dyersburg; Zac Wilson, Deandra Caldwell and Tyler Carson, were also taken to Helen Keller Hospital and treated and released.
