Man Seriously Injured in Crash Between Two Trucks

On Saturday, September 17 a man suffered a serious injury in a crash between two trucks on Highway 72.

According to Tuscumbia Police Department the crash happened just west of the Premier Trucking Company in Tuscumbia on Highway 72. Due to the weather, a truck traveling eastbound, being driven by a man from Mississippi, hydroplaned and hit the median. The truck went airborne, burst into flames and landed on another truck headed westbound being driven by a man from Tennessee.

The eastbound truck’s driver was flown to the burn unit in Birmingham to be treated for burns covering 85 percent of his body from the waist down while the passenger in that truck only sustained minor injuries.

The westbound driver and passenger sustained minor injuries.

The blaze was so fierce that both trucks suffered severe damage and the asphalt became so hot it started to melt necessitating the presence of the Alabama Department of Transportation at the scene.
