Clanton Man Killed in Crash with a Tractor-Trailer

Early on Wednesday morning, November 16, a Clanton man was killed in a crash with a tractor-trailer.

According to Alabama State Troopers, the accident happened at 6.25 a.m. at the intersection of Chilton County 50 and Alabama 191, about five miles south of Jemison. Paul Orlando Reed, aged 46 was driving a 1997 Chevrolet Blazer which was in a collision with 2016 Kenworth tractor-trailer. His vehicle then overturned at the intersection.

Reed, who was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, was taken to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later. The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured.

According to troopers they believe that the fog which was present that morning may have been a contributing factor to the accident and the accident remains under investigation.

Man Seriously Injured in Crash Between Two Trucks

On Saturday, September 17 a man suffered a serious injury in a crash between two trucks on Highway 72.

According to Tuscumbia Police Department the crash happened just west of the Premier Trucking Company in Tuscumbia on Highway 72. Due to the weather, a truck traveling eastbound, being driven by a man from Mississippi, hydroplaned and hit the median. The truck went airborne, burst into flames and landed on another truck headed westbound being driven by a man from Tennessee.

The eastbound truck’s driver was flown to the burn unit in Birmingham to be treated for burns covering 85 percent of his body from the waist down while the passenger in that truck only sustained minor injuries.

The westbound driver and passenger sustained minor injuries.

The blaze was so fierce that both trucks suffered severe damage and the asphalt became so hot it started to melt necessitating the presence of the Alabama Department of Transportation at the scene.
