Pedestrian Killed in Hit and Run

On Wednesday August 5, a pedestrian was killed in a hit and run incident.

According to the Birmingham Police Department, the accident happened just after 5.30 in the morning on Highway 280 at Key Drive. Someone driving a 2004 to 2008 white Ford F 150 pickup along the highway hit a woman who was trying to run or walk across the highway. The vehicle did not stop and the police arrived to find a white female dead in the roadway.

The area where the incident took place is often used by pedestrians as a crossing point, with people running across on a daily basis and local residents highlighted the need for a crosswalk.

The police have asked the driver of the vehicle involved to come forward and reminded that if they had stayed at the scene they would have avoided criminal charges. As it is, leaving the scene of a accident where a death was involved means they will now face criminal charges.

The police went on to say that the vehicle involved will probably have noticeable damage, especially to the area around the headlights and have asked for the assistance of the public in locating the vehicle.
